LUMEN
THE MANA SABER
HIS STORY
Long before there were three, there were two.
Lumen has been at Taren's side since he was little more than a mana saber kitten—small enough to follow at his heels, curious enough to investigate everything, and already stubborn enough to make it clear that wherever Taren went, he intended to go too.
He grew from a kitten into a powerful mana saber on the road beside him.
Years of traveling together created a bond that rarely requires words. Lumen learned to recognize the smallest changes in Taren's voice and movement, while Taren learned that a flick of an ear, a low warning growl, or the sudden stillness of the saber beside him could say more than any spoken warning.
They became a team.
Then Aelara appeared.
Lumen did not immediately understand why the young priest kept appearing on their road—or why Taren, despite all his usual caution, kept allowing her to remain there.
So Lumen watched her.
He watched the way she treated strangers. The way she stepped toward those who needed help. The way she trusted Taren even when he gave her very little reason to know what he was thinking.
And eventually, Lumen made his own decision.
Aelara belonged with them.
From that point forward, his loyalty extended to her as naturally and completely as it always had to Taren.
The three crossed Bloodmyst together and eventually left the islands behind, carrying their strange little family across the sea and into Darkshore.
There, Lumen's instincts have become increasingly important.
He does not understand corrupted shards, hidden motives, or whatever larger mystery is beginning to unfold around them.
He doesn't need to.
Lumen understands danger.
He understands when the forest becomes too quiet. When an unfamiliar scent does not belong. When Taren's hand moves closer to his bow. When Aelara needs him beside her rather than several steps ahead.
And when something threatens either of them, there is no hesitation.
To anyone else, Lumen may simply appear to be a mana saber traveling beside a priest and a ranger.
They know better.
He isn't their pet.
He is family.
THE JOURNEY SO FAR
BEFORE AELARA
AT TAREN'S SIDELumen's journey began with Taren.
From the time he was a kitten, Taren was the constant in his world—the familiar footsteps he followed, the hand he trusted, and the person beside whom he learned to navigate a world much larger than himself.
As Lumen grew, so did the bond between them.
By the time another traveler crossed their path, the ranger and his mana saber already understood one another almost without effort.
AELARA
THE CIRCLE GROWSLumen watched Aelara before he trusted her.
She was unfamiliar, unpredictable, and suddenly spending a great deal of time beside the person Lumen had known his entire life.
But mana sabers have their own ways of judging someone.
Whatever Lumen saw in Aelara was enough.
Slowly, staying near her became natural. Protecting her became instinctive.
The circle that had always contained two became three.
BLOODMYST ISLE
THREE ON THE ROADBloodmyst tested all three companions.
Danger became more common, the road less predictable, and Lumen's instincts became as valuable to the group as Taren's watchfulness or Aelara's magic.
He was no longer simply following Taren's journey.
He was part of their journey.
ACROSS THE SEA
BEYOND FAMILIAR SHORESWhen Taren and Aelara boarded the ship, Lumen went with them.
There was no decision to make.
Home was no longer a particular island or familiar stretch of road.
Home was wherever the three of them were together.
DARKSHORE
INSTINCT DOESN'T LIEDarkshore feels wrong.
Lumen cannot name the corruption they have encountered or explain the mystery surrounding the shard they discovered.
But he can sense when something does not belong.
The forest changes. Strange scents linger where they should not. Tension moves through Taren before anyone speaks, and Aelara is being drawn deeper into a mystery none of them yet understands.
Lumen does not need answers before deciding what to do.
He stays close.
He watches.
And if the darkness reaches for his family, it will have to get through him first.
COMPANIONS
TAREN
THE RANGERTaren has been Lumen's person for as long as Lumen can remember.
He was there when Lumen was still a kitten, when the world was enormous and every unfamiliar sound demanded investigation. He watched him grow, taught him the road, protected him when he was small, and trusted him when he became strong enough to return the favor.
Years together have made words unnecessary.
Lumen knows Taren's movements, moods, and silences. He recognizes when the ranger is relaxed and when something has caught his attention long before Taren reaches for his bow.
And Taren knows him just as well.
Their bond was the first constant in Lumen's life.
Whatever roads lie ahead, there has never been any question of whether Lumen will walk them beside him.
DISCOVER TAREN →AELARA
THE PRIESTAelara had to earn her place.
When she first appeared, Lumen watched her with the same careful attention he gives anything unfamiliar—especially anything unfamiliar that suddenly begins spending a great deal of time around Taren.
She was assessed.
Repeatedly.
Apparently, she passed.
Over time, watching became following. Following became staying close. And somewhere along the journey, Lumen began treating Aelara's safety with the same fierce certainty he had always reserved for Taren.
He stays near when she is uncertain.
He notices when something around her changes.
And when danger appears, instinct puts him between Aelara and the threat before anyone has to ask.
Whatever distinction once existed between the ranger Lumen had known his entire life and the priest they met along the road has become much simpler.
They are his people.
And Lumen protects his people.
